ASSISTANCE
HOW THE EMBASSY CAN HELP YOU
In the event
of local difficulties the British Embassy can help you by doing
the following:
If arrested:
-
Visit you
in custody as soon as possible after notification of arrest.

Provide
a list of local lawyers.
-
Give advice
on local procedures.
-
Liaise
with local authorities to provide doctors if necessary and notify
next-of-kin if whished.
In the
event of serious illness (friends/relatives are unavailable):
-
Contact
the hospital within 24 hours of notification.
-
Ask the
Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London to contact next-of-kin.
-
Visit you
within 48 hours.
Death:
Repatriation:
-
Can, as
a last resort, arrange repatriation at public expense, against
a legally binding Undertaking to Repay.
WHAT WE CAN NOT DO FOR YOU
We are unable to:
-
Supply
money for payment of bills.
-
Obtain
employment or accommodation for you.

Offer legal
advice.
-
Investigate
a crime.
-
Assistance
if you hold Dual Nationality and you are in the country of your
second (i.e. non-British) nationality.

Provide
free interpretation services.
