GENERAL INFORMATION
What is a visa_
A visa is an entry clearance issued
to a person before travel to the UK. If you have one of these you
will not be refused permission to enter the UK unless there has
been a material change in circumstances, or false information was
given, or you did not disclose important facts when the visa was
obtained. Holders of visas may also be refused on medical grounds,
if they have a criminal record, if they are subject to a deportation
order, or if there are any other exceptional reasons why they may
not be admitted.
Do I need a visa_
Many people need a valid visa in order
to travel to the UK. If you have a Libyan passport you need a UK
visa for a visit or to study. You must also obtain a visa to:
- settle in the UK
- work in the UK
- set up in business in the UK
- go to live in the UK as a person
of independent means
- obtain medical treatment in the
UK
- accompany or join someone going
to the UK for any of the above purposes
- transit the UK
What about non-Libyans_
Whether or not you need a visa depends
on your nationality. Click
here for a list of
those countries whose nationals need a visa to visit the UK.
If I am a Libyan passport holder
or another visa national is there any circumstance in which I can
travel without a visa_
There are some exceptions. They are
when:
- you are legally settled in the UK
and are seeking to return within two years of last departure
- you have the Right of Abode in the
UK
- you have previously been granted
leave to enter or remain in the UK for a period of more than six
months and are returning to the UK for the same purpose before
that leave has expired.
